Rumours have circulated that Ireland’s chief scout and head analyst for Ireland Stephen Rice is in the race for the Swindon Town hot seat. Given the recent history of top staff members departing the Irish setup, this is worrying.
As Ireland face into a fresh qualifying campaign minus John Eustace who has yet to be replaced and Rice could follow suit. Kenny has already stated that he wants the best people for the job and was willing to lose people to more attractive roles like Anthony Barry to Belgium, Ruaidhrì Higgins to Derry city and Eustace to Birmingham city.
The question has to be asked, why are they leaving so quickly? Yes, the majority are leaving to go into full-time and better paid jobs but it’s seems to be a recurring trend. Kenny has stated that him and Keith Andrews are the only full time staff of management team and this more than likely is cost issue. I suggested before in my 2022 review that in the November window, I could see the signs of Kenny’s side going backwards with it being the second window without Eustace. Now with the news Rice could be leaving, this surely has to be addressed sooner rather than later.
As always please leave you thoughts on what you would like to see happen regarding the senior management setup!
